INTERNATIONAL ANTI- CORRUPTION DAY OBSERVED IN KOFORIDUA
The International Anti-corruption Day has been observed in Koforidua in the Eastern Region with a call on the youth to avail themselves to be empowered to serve as ambassadors in the country’s fight against corruption.
The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Anti- Corruption Coalition, GACC, Beauty Emefa Narteh who made the call noted that corruption affects every aspect of the society hence the need for all hands to be on deck to educate and sensitize the citizenry in order to get everybody involve in the fight against corruption.

The International Anti-Corruption Day is observed globally on 9th December every year to raise awareness of corruption and the UN convention in combating and presenting it.
This year's Anti-Corruption Day was on the theme, “Your Right Your Role; Say No to Corruption”. The United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against corruption on October 31, 2003.
This year’s celebration in Ghana coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Coalition and has thus in partnership with member institutions adopted a one week for the commemoration of Anti-corruption.
The week is termed as the ACT week which is explained as Anti-Corruption Transparency week which helps to reflect on the issues of Anti-corruption and to have all members and partners churn out activities to commemorate international Anti- corruption day.
The Executive Secretary of the Coalition, Beauty Emefa Narteh, said as part of the celebration of the day, her outfit embarked on some activities which include launching of the week, forum, and integrity awards to be held among others which will be crowned with an International Anti- Corruption conference where the president of Ghana, Akuffo Addo is expected to be the main guest of honour.

She said her outfit targets the youth to be empowered to lead in the fight against corruption since they can intend influence their peers to also join in the fight against corruption to bring about accelerated development.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Coalition, Michael Adisu observed that corruption is something prevalent that the country has been dealing with.

Mr. Adisu indicated that for the past 2-3 decades the country have seen a lot of report on corruption which is really having an effect on the country’s accelerated development.
He mentioned that corruption has resulted in under development especially at the rural communities in terms of education and health among others.

Mr. Adisu said the country is losing in the area of finance as financial elements that are supposed to be used for development of the country is missed out due to corruption.
He said the country is missing some revenue due to the corrupt nature of citizens that have been entrusted with works to be executed towards the country’s rapid growth.
He stressed on the need for all to get on board in tackling corruption since it is a collective responsibility.
