DVLA REGISTERED 360 VEHICLES

 Story by Michael Kenetey Kofi

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Koforidua registered three hundred and 60 new vehicles at the beginning of this month.

This includes 118 motorbikes, 171 private cars and 71 commercial vehicles. The Eastern Regional Director of the Authority, Sylvanus Markwei disclosed this to radio Ghana in Koforidua.

According to him, the authority also registered three thousand and sixty-six vehicles last year. This consists of one thousand five hundred and two private cars and one thousand five hundred and sixty-four commercial vehicles.

He further stated that the new vehicles registration system adopted by the authority began operation this year.

Mr. Markwei said the only challenge facing the new system is frequent interruption of internet service. Under this new system, he said one can get his or her vehicle registered within 20 to 30 minutes.

He pointed out that the system will helped eliminate the operation of middlemen popularly known as “Goro boys” who give fake registration numbers and license to drivers and vehicle owners.

Mr. Markwei also advised the police officers to be vigilant on the road and arrest all unregistered motorbikes and vehicles plying the road since they are the only institution mandated by the state to check vehicles on the roads.
