IRON ORE DISCOVERED IN COMMERCIAL QUANTITIES IN OTI REGION

Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor

Iron Ore in commercial quantities has been discovered in the Oti Region.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor who disclosed this to journalists after visiting the Ore deposit, said the discovery is good news for the Oti Region and Ghana as a whole.

He said the Geological Survey Authority is still working to ascertain the depth of the Ore. Mr. Jinapor added that by the middle of next year 2022, the Geological Survey Authority would have concluded works to establish the depth and volume of the Ore and then hand it over to the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Corporation, GIISDEC, for exploration to commence.

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister noted that while the Geological Survey Authority is on-going with its work, the government through GIISDEC is working to find a suitable private company to partner it to explore the Ore.

The Damongo Lawmaker was however emphatic that Mining of the Ore will begin during the term of this government.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Geological Survey Authority, Dr. Daniel Boamah said the Iron Ore is of the highest grade of 55 point 22.
