Chapter 15 Article 200 Clause 1 of the 1992 constitutions stated that there shall be a Police Service of Ghana and Clause 2 of the same Article 200 stated that the Police Service shall be equipped and maintained to perform its traditional role of maintaining law and order. In proportion to Section 1 of the Ghana Police Service Act, made provision that it shall be the duty of the Police Service to detect crime, to apprehend offenders, and maintain public order and the safety of persons and property . The police service since the gaining of Ghana's independence, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is being appointed by the government in power.
